Summer Term 2026
Welcome to the Summer term, our last term for year 4 2026!
I will always do the best for each individual child, therefore it is important we work in partnership to ensure each child’s needs are met. Please do not hesitate to contact me. ccrathern@aceschool.co.uk
Homework
Homework will be set every Friday and due in the following Friday. All homework will be set on Google Classroom. The purpose of homework is to further embed the past weeks learning. I will always aim to make it as interactive as possible. In addition to weekly homework, every Tuesday a spelling sheet will be sent home to be completed and handed in on Friday morning.
Spelling
Each week a new set of words will be introduced, daily revision activities will be set to embed correct spellings. Each week a spelling revision sheet will be sent home. At the end of the week a short spelling quiz will be taken in order for the children to track their own progress.
English
We will continue to develop on our adventure stories. Drafting and editing will be a firm focus within summer 1 term, enabling the children to embed the skill and move their learning on in summer 2. Story sequencing will be used in order to enable the children to practice their writing skills, applying parts of speech in order to elevate their writing skills.
Maths and mastering Number
Fractions, decimals, money and time is the focus this term within the Power maths framework.
Mastering number, short burst daily lessons of 15-20minutes will continue throughout this term, these lessons take place independently from maths lessons and are designed to promote deeper understanding and fluency within multiplication.
Small group interventions as well as whole class times table retrieval practice will continue to remain a large focus in preparation for the year 4 national statutory times table check.
French and Music
Continuing to work with Madame Stacey, improving their understanding so far, using clothes and fashion as the focus.
The children will continue to develop their musical confidence, improvising and
composing music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music with Mr Servant.
RE
The children will develop their understanding of Christianity by considering the interesting question: ‘“What kind of world did Jesus want?” In Summer 2 we will be enquiring into how the Story of Rama and Sita inspire Hindus to follow their Dharma.
Science
Living things and their habitats
Explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their local and wider environment.
Electricity
Identify, name and explain simple electrical circuits.
Animals including humans
Identify food chains and understand how the human digestive system works.
History
We will be delving into the Tudor Period. Exploring what made Queen Elizabeth I a powerful monarch and how Francis Drake protected England.
Geography
This term we will be focusing on Antarctica; who lives in Antarctica, identify human and physical features on Antarctica and how latitude and longitude link to climate. We will also be learning about the journey of Shakleton.
Physical Education
Swimming and Athletics
Personal, Social and Health Education(PSHE)
The children will have many open discussions within these lessons. This term we will be focusing on ‘Relationships’ and ‘Changing me’.
Art
The art of display.
The children will explore how the way they display their work can affect the way it is seen through sculpture, sketching and drawing. They will also explore how they can re-see objects around them and use a variety of materials to construct their artwork.
Design and Technology
Mechanical systems.
Designing and making a slingshot car using a range of materials.
Computing
Developing the four areas of computational thinking as well as researching and storing data through the use of spreadsheets.
