Summer Term 2026

It’s the Summer Term in Year 6 (and our last term at ACE)!

We are really looking forward to our exciting learning in Ichthus Class this term.

To coincide with David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, we will be writing voiceovers for a nature documentary in English this term. We will be using Accelerated Reader to help us hone our reading skills and continuing to use our Spelling programme to equip us for the spelling demands of Year 6.  Of course, we will also be reading delicious books for pleasure.

The children will once again be using Power Maths to develop their skills in all areas of Mathematics, including Algebra and Problem Solving.

Our Science this term involves learning about Variation, Adaptation & Fossils. We will learn to identify how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and that adaptation may lead to evolution. Also, that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago.

In Religious Education, we will be studying the Hindu faith and asking ‘Why do Hindus want to be good?’ We will also be investigating the questions ‘Why do some people believe in God and some not?’ and ‘How does faith help people when life gets hard?’

In History, we will be learning about the Suffragette movement, including the controversial methods that were used to further their cause.

In Geography, we will be carrying out an independent fieldwork enquiry in our local area.

In Art & Design, we will be exploring how artists use light, form and colour to create immersive environments and creating a small-world light box.

For our Design & Technology focus, we will be designing and making a steady hand game using electronic components

In PSHE, our themes for the half term are ‘Relationships’ and ‘Changing Me’.

Madame Stacey will be teaching us about ‘Les Sports’ in French.  The class will learn to talk about sports they play or do and to express an opinion on a sport in French.

Mr Servant will be teaching the class all about Rap Music, followed by preparation for an end of Year 6 performance to parents.

In Computing, we will be learning how data can become corrupt and the difference between mobile data and Wifi.

PE will be on Wednesdays & Fridays.  (Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school every Monday for the whole week as lessons may change.)  Plus, of course, we have Swimming at the Lido on Thursdays starting on 30th April.

Further highlights will include our SATs tests in May and our Year 6 Leavers’ Service at Chichester Cathedral in June.

What a busy term it is going to be!
